Hello!
I am a freelance editor and author, working on building up my portfolio. I’ve previously made my living as a Bookkeeper, Cake Decorator, and Professional Student.
Education
I am currently going back to school to get a Literary Publishing Certificate and finish my degree in English. All it took was 10 years and two kids to realize I was letting a lot of clients look right past me by ignoring the last couple units required, so I’m looking forward to getting some great credentials on my profile in the next year.
Introductory Experience
In the meantime, I’ve done a fair bit of editing work. First at no charge for friends and peers, but in the last couple of years, I decided to monetize the process so I can stay home with my girls.
I’ve had probably twelve years of experience in this line of work, though only two in an official capacity. I started out as a beta reader for friends in writer’s groups, moved on to light copy editing for them, and then started researching best practices, SOPs, and how The Professionals get ‘er done.
Professional Experience
In recent years, I’ve completed copy and line edit work for two separate authors of photography books. The first does not have an estimated release date or title yet, but the second of which I also worked as a developmental editor and proofreader. Look for it soon: Silver State Superlatives, out in the next couple of months after the author finalizes his picture layout!
I’m in the process of a developmental edit for a second book by the Silver State author, and likely to continue working with him as he develops even more books in the future.
I’m also in the process of a round two developmental edit for author PG Isaacs on their debut novel, a psychological horror dual-timeline masterpiece. My work on round one and initial notes for round two has landed me a contract for their next two books as well, one in the paranormal (romance or gothic horror possibly? we’ll see) genre, and the other a comedy-horror.
Preferences
While I’ve currently done more professional work for nonfiction (in the photography niche), my preference and passion go toward fiction. I am enamored with the proper telling of a story (which is why I’m happy to work with creative nonfiction such as memoirs or autobiographies as well) and know how to help that story go from Hm, interesting to Oh my f—ing God, that’s amazing!
I’ve worked extensively in Comedy, Romance, Horror, and a mix of all of the above. I’d like to get more into Romance and Contemporary Fiction but just haven’t found a lot of projects that have really struck me. I’m open to adult and YA literature, but not interested in Middle Grade or Youth; I get enough of juvenile fiction with my kids!
